TAKE ACTION: Make public comment on Cherokee Station

The Public Service Company of Colorado has applied to renew the Operating Permit for the Cherokee Station in Adams County.

Cherokee pollutes air space within some of the state’s most disproportionately affected communities.

47% of the local population are of low-income status, likely unable to relocate away from Cherokee’s pollution. Poor air quality can cause a number of health problems that can be expensive, difficult to treat, and lead to other co-morbid conditions.

Our state is REQUIRED to take environmental justice into consideration when making energy decisions.

Not only does the continued use of natural gas plants harm our environment, but it harms vulnerable Coloradans as well. The Colorado Air Pollution Control Division has a responsibility to protect the public health and wellbeing of EVERYONE.

The plant operates a gas-fired steam generator and two combined-cycle gas turbines. Read the full renewal request here.

Once again Colorado is faced with the opportunity to set a significant precedent for our energy future. We have the opportunity to make the turn towards renewables and it is our responsibility to do so for the sake of our planet and neighbors.

Speak up against air pollution and disproportionate environmental impact by making a public comment today! Public comments will be accepted through October 15th.

Commenters are encouraged to discuss the sufficiency of the request, whether the permit application should be approved or denied, the ability of the request to comply with requirements, the air quality impacts, and the control technology required.
