Progressives Celebrate Wins For Colorado’s Kids, Democracy Nationwide

DENVER: As ballot returns in Colorado and across the country point to resounding wins for progressive values and repudiation of the Trump administration’s disastrous first months in office, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, congratulated the Yes on LL & MM campaign for their success in ensuring no Colorado student goes hungry while trying to learn.

“Since Donald Trump took office, he has waged a horrific and unprecedented war to divide and punish Americans, and tonight voters in Colorado and across the nation powerfully reaffirmed the values that make America great,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “Trump wasn’t on the ballot tonight, but in every ballot question and municipal race across America, voters made decisions rejecting the national nightmare Trump has created. While Trump defies court orders to feed 42 million hungry Americans, Colorado voters voted overwhelmingly to ensure kids in school do not have to learn on an empty stomach. In Aurora, where Trump and Gabe Evans spread the lies that launched ‘Operation Aurora,’ the far-right majority on the City Council that disgraced Colorado’s most diverse major city has suffered a crushing defeat.”

“In California, voters answered the Republican Party’s mid-decade gerrymandering with the equal force necessary to protect democracy across the nation,” said Loflin. “Colorado voters made the decision to enshrine fairness in redistricting into our state’s constitution. Since then, we’ve been repaid by Trump directing red states to rig their maps for the next election. The results from Virginia and New Jersey should send shivers down the spines of Colorado elected officials like Gabe Evans, who has tied his destiny to Donald Trump’s demolition of America’s economy and commitment to the rule of law.”

“After nine months of Trump’s so-called ‘Golden Age,’ Americans are hurting–and that’s how they voted tonight,” said Loflin. “Trump’s promises to make life better for America’s working families have fallen flat. Trump’s loyal stooges like Rep. Gabe Evans share the blame for every child in America going hungry tonight. The call around the country tonight, from Colorado’s classrooms to California’s congressional maps, and yes, in New York City, is that everyone outside the MAGA bubble, the center and left, must unite and walk our country back from the brink of destruction.”
