DENVER: Responding to yesterday’s horrific shooting by a federal immigration agent of longtime Colorado resident and mother of three Renee Nicole Good, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, called on Colorado’s members of Congress to demand Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s resignation and support impeachment proceedings against her.
“The murder of Renee Good of Colorado Springs by ICE agents in Minneapolis yesterday has shocked the conscience of millions of Americans who watched the horrifying video of her death,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Sara Loflin. “The callous disregard for Good’s life and rights as an American displayed by Trump administration officials like DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is beyond unacceptable. Kristi Noem’s shameless attempt to spin this tragedy before any investigation into what happened could take place is another ominous sign that this administration has no guardrails in place to prevent atrocities being committed against the American people.”
“After this heinous act of violence against a fellow American who grew up in Colorado, Congress must take action to protect all Americans from further violence,” said Loflin. “Secretary Noem has proven that she is unwilling or unable to prevent violence by federal law enforcement against American citizens. After apologizing for tainting the investigation into Renee Good’s murder, Kristi Noem must either resign or be impeached in order to allow an unbiased investigation into what has happened to federal law enforcement under her watch. Today we’re calling on every member of Congress from Colorado to demand Noem’s immediate resignation, and to support articles for Noem’s impeachment.”
