Colorado needs help and this weekend is the key

As an informed Colorado resident, you already know that our state has been struggling on a fiscal starvation diet for years. Despite electing progressive majorities to the Colorado General Assembly in election after election, the lawmakers we send to the state capitol are hamstrung by competing constitutional spending limits and mandates that make it impossible to meet today’s needs.

It’s time to break out of this box, and start keeping the promises made to voters on the issues that matter most. Education. Child care. Healthcare. Not with empty rhetoric, but with real change.

That’s why Colorado needs a graduated income tax. Under the measure we’re helping get on the ballot as part of the Protect Colorado’s Future campaign, 97% of Coloradans will see a tax cut, while the highest-income earners will pay a little more. The result will be $2 billion in new revenue to meet essential needs. Lawmakers are already being forced to make painful cuts to the state budget in response to disastrous decisions being made in Washington under the current administration. Without a graduated income tax, it’s going to get even worse year after year.

This weekend, it’s all hands on deck before the deadline to turn in signatures next Monday. If you’re a registered Colorado voter and you still haven’t signed the petition to place Initiative 195 on the ballot this November, now is the time! Once you’ve signed the petition, the Protect Colorado’s Future campaign needs your help! You can volunteer to 1.) Grab a petition and help collect more signatures and 2.) You can assist the signature verification effort, ensuring that all submitted signatures are valid. Both of these volunteer projects are crucial to success as the petition phase of the campaign wraps up.

If everything goes right, on Monday afternoon the campaign will deliver petitions to the Secretary of State’s office! That’s when the real work begins, as the Protect Colorado’s Future campaign spreads the word about the benefits of a graduated income tax to every Colorado voter before the November elections. With your help, voters will remind us all this November that we can still come together to solve big problems.
