DENVER, CO – ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest multi-issue progressive advocacy organization, is blasting Congressman Gabe Evans with a new radio ad for voting to delay a fee on methane pollution for 10 years, handing Big Oil a massive giveaway—costing taxpayers $7-8 billion and polluting our air while Colorado kids struggle to breathe.

The ad features a parent whose child suffers from asthma made worse by dirty air:

“My doctor says bad air quality makes my child’s asthma worse. I just want my kids to be able to play outside without worrying about getting sick. But methane and air pollution from oil and gas development make it harder for children like mine to breathe. And Congressman Gabe Evans doesn’t seem to care (sound effect: child coughing). Evans pushed through a bill that will increase healthcare costs and eliminate a fee on oil companies that pollute our air with methane. Tell Congressman Evans: Protect our kids’ health, not polluters’ profits.”

“Let’s be clear: Gabe Evans voted to delay a fee on methane pollution, making it easier for oil and gas companies to pollute our air and harder for families to afford health care,” said Sara Loflin, executive director of ProgressNow Colorado. “That’s not leadership—it’s a sellout to corporate polluters.”

The Facts:

Evans’s vote delayed the methane polluter fee for 10 years.— —which would have forced Big Oil to pay for the waste and pollution they create.
70% of Americans support the polluter fee.
Oil and gas companies wasted about $3.5 billion worth of methane in 2023, costing taxpayers billions and exacerbating climate and air pollution. The bill will drive up healthcare costs while slashing healthcare benefits, including Medicaid, and gives oil and gas corporations a $7.5 billion break.
“Coloradans want clean air and accountability. Evans voted for dirty air and corporate giveaways. He chose polluters over kids, period,” added Loflin.

The new ad is airing statewide.
