Amendment 82: A constitutional right to natural gas

Vote NO on Amendment 82

Amendment 82 asks Coloradans to make changes to the Colorado State Constitution in order to enshrine the right to sell and purchase natural gas. Natural gas is commonly used in homes and businesses for cooking and heating and is a non-renewable resource. It is already legal to buy and sell natural gas in Colorado. This amendment will protect monopoly utility companies from being held accountable and will create a legal backdoor for raising utility prices. Additionally, this amendment would give big polluters a legal tool they will use to fight local regulations that protect clean air and water.

“Amendment 82, the ‘right to natural gas,’ would be a radical and permanent change to our State Constitution. Amendment 82 is designed to give corporate polluters a free pass to overturn health and safety rules and force Coloradans to cover the high costs of new gas pipelines. This is one corporate interest trying to enshrine special rights for itself and force the costs and consequences on Colorado families.”
