Amendment 83: The right to hunt and fish

Vote NO on Amendment 83

Amendment 83 asks Colorado voters if the right to hunt and fish should be included in the state constitution. The amendment excludes the right to hunt endangered or protected species, or those otherwise illegal to hunt.

The text of Amendment 83 suggests that the “right to hunt” is important in order to uphold hunting and fishing as the “preferred methods” of wildlife management by the State; however, hunting and fishing are already legal in Colorado.

This amendment will shift power from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Agency to individuals, interfering with CPW’s ability to manage wildlife through evidence-based tactics.

Amendment 83 was concocted by out-of-state special interests, led by an international trophy-hunting group based in Wisconsin. Other backers of Amendment 83 include the Safari Club International of Washington, D.C and the far-right activist group Turning Point USA. These groups have already poured more than $2 million into the campaign to pass Amendment 83.
